Renovation Calls for Extra Tall Bar Stools
June 12th, 2009There’s something about sitting on a bar stool that is very comforting and relaxing. I’m not sure what it is, but whenever I pull myself up onto a stool and perch my feet on the rail, I feel an immediate release of tension from my body. Sitting on a stool is so much different from sitting on a regular chair. It gives me a sense of freedom and exhilaration. So when my husband I decided to renovate our kitchen and family room, we both looked at each other and said “bar stools!” We knew that we wanted to include some high counters or tables in our plan, because they’re great for entertaining. And with the cost of everything going up, I think our friends would just a soon sit on a bar stool at our house, rather than go to a noisy, smoky club downtown. Since our family room and kitchen are connected, we thought the logical solution would be to install a high counter to separate the two different areas. We worked with our contractor and he came up with several design plans. They were all wonderful and we had a hard time deciding which plan to choose. But we did decide to go with the dividing counter. We weren’t sure about the type of bar stools to buy, but after shopping around, we purchased six extra tall swivel bar stools that have leather seats. They are beautiful and luxurious! Four of them look great by the counter. The other two are in the family room. Now whenever there’s an opportunity to get together everyone fights about who gets to sit on the bar stools, and who gets the regular chairs. They are obviously winners!
